img_AIDS_UnitedAIDS United invited WHP Director Edward Machtinger to provide a testimony at a congressional briefing in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month on October 14, 2014 in Washington D.C. The panelists included Gina Brown, MD, Office of AIDS Research, National Institutes of Health; Jacquelyn Campbell, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor, John Hopkins School of Nursing and Bloomberg School of Public Health; Maggie Czarnogorski, MD, MPH, Senior Policy Advisor, Office of National AIDS Policy; Naina Khanna, Executive Director, Positive Women’s Network USA; Edward Machtinger, MD, Director, Women’s HIV Program at UCSF; and Lynn Rosenthal, White House Advisor on Violence Against Women, Office of the Vice President.

The briefing explored the critical intersection of women, violence and HIV and the impact of trauma on health outcomes of women living with HIV. The briefing provided information about the work the Administration has done through the Interagency Federal Working Group and provided updates on implementation of recommendations. The briefing was in cooperation with the HIV Caucus (co-chairs: Representative Barbara Lee, Representative Jim McDermott and Representative Ileana Ros-Lehtinen).
